Message from the Commissioner

We are proud of the progress Tennessee students have made over the past year, with the class of 2018 setting a new record high graduation rate (89.1%) and all-time high ACT composite (20.2). Students in specific student groups, like English learners, have often outpaced their peers in their performance on TNReady, and we are encouraged by the growth elementary students have shown on their reading abilities – demonstrating improvement in 2017-18 after years of stagnant scores. Thank you to the teachers, families, and community leaders who are supporting our excellent schools in Tennessee – you are creating more opportunities for our students’ futures and strengthening our state for generations to come.
